The Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio left the technical direction of the América de Cali team, of the Colombian Primera Division. After nine months of ups and downs and controversies at the head of the squad, the club reported this Thursday, March 31, the cessation of Osorio.

In a statement, América de Cali explained that “the contractual relationship with the strategist Juan Carlos Osorio was terminated”. However, as soon as he left the team, there was speculation of the new squad he could reach and it would be a squad of the Liga MX of the First Division of Mexico.

After the retirement of Argentina's Santiago Solari from club America, the fans began to spread the names of those who they would like to see on the blue-cream bench and Juan Carlos Osorio was listed as one of the favorite candidates that the fans hailed.

Now that he has been disassociated from the Colombian institution, there is a chance that those from Coapa will engage in talks with him. Despite the fact that different Azulcrema supporters requested it, so far there is no official rapprochement between the directive headed by Santiago Baños and Osorio.

Juan Carlos's management at the helm of the Red Devils was not satisfactory as he left the team in the last places of the championship standings with only 15 points. The technical director who led Mexico to the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup in Russia assumed command of Colombian America in June 2021.

He signed a two-year contract, but poor results and his erratic behavior hurt the relationship with the club and its fans. Osorio's assistant, Pompilio Páez, will take over the team.

With the 60-year-old coach on the bench, America was eliminated from the Copa Libertadores-2021 in the group stage and from the South Americana-2022 in the preliminary round. America, the 15-time champion of Colombian football, does not perform in the local tournament, in which it marches in the fifteenth place.

Osorio starred in several scandals in his cycle at the helm of America. On March 16, he stomped on a rival player in the loss to Independiente Medellín for the first round of the Copa Sudamericana.

Before coming to the bench in America, he led the Paraguayan national team and Atlético Nacional, from which he came out at the end of 2020 after a weak campaign in his second cycle at the helm of the Medellín team.
