Kepa completes medical with Real Madrid -report

He’d be free to do so as his deal with Athletic expires next summer.

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has completed his medical with Real Madrid, according to a report from MARCA. Los Blancos appear to be set to trigger the €20 million release clause on Kepa’s current contract with Bilbao although the goalkeeper will be a free agent this summer.

When asked about whether Kepa has completed a medical with Real Madrid or not, Athletic Bilbao coach Ziganda said the following:

“I have no idea, I don’t know what to say about it. He was here recovering from his injury and didn’t train in San Mames just like Balenziaga, so I just don’t know if he traveled to Madrid later on,” explained the coach, who also said that Kepa “hasn’t changed his mindset” from what he saw earlier this season.

It would be a strange move from Real Madrid to spend €20 million on Kepa when they could sign him as a free agent this summer, even more so if he’s not going to be the starter when he joins the team.
