Former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is retiring at the end of the season

Former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is set to retire at the conclusion of the season. The 34-year-old had a career that spanned almost 15 years after being called up to VFB Stuttgart’s first team in 2006.

He spent five seasons with Real Madrid after transferring from Stuttgart. He made over 100 club appearances and was a part of the 2014 Champions League Final starting squad against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.

He won a La Liga title, two Copa del Reys and a Supercopa de Espana in his time with Madrid. With just his second club goal, he broke the La Liga single season goal record at the time scoring the 108th team goal in the 2011-12 season.

Khedira transferred to Juventus on a free during the 2015 summer transfer window. He made almost 100 appearances for the club and won five consecutive Serie A titles. He was in the starting squad for the 2017 Champions League Final against his former Real Madrid in Cardiff.

He spent this past season back in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin. Internationally, he made over 75 appearances for his native Germany and was a part of the 2014 World Cup winning team.
