Diego Forlán gave an interview to Radio MARCA and said that "at (Porto Alegre's) Internacional we had a good pre-season and that helps with scoring goals. I'm playing as a forward now. I've gone back to my roots, more like I played at Villarreal. In Atlético de Madrid I played a bit further back".

The Uruguayan had good things to say about his teammate Leandro Damiao. "He's a very strong forward and a great goalscorer. He's young and is doing really well. He's on the radar of several Italian, Spanish and English teams. He's a great player".

On being asked about the Uruguay national team, he said that for Uruguay "qualifiers are very difficult". "Nowadays, football is very evenly matched and any team can beat you. There's no history any more. The shirt does not carry any weight and we are conscious of that in Uruguay", he said.

"It's good that the Copa America is played every four years. You need a gap between competition and competition so that the Copa America doesn't get devalued", he commented.

Forlán stressed that "playing well in Europe doesn't mean that things will go well in Brazil. I've played in several European leagues and now I'm playing in Brazil. It's hard to say which is the toughest. The 'Brasileirao' is a championship that involves a lot of travel. All Brazilian teams play at least 60 games a year".
