Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League campaign has been dealt another blow, with Thomas Tuchel's side losing 2-1 away to RB Leipzig on Wednesday night in what was a repeat of last year's semi-final in the competition.

Without the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, Angel Di Maria was able to give the Parisians the lead after six minutes. Dayot Upamecano tried to pass the ball back to Peter Gulacsi but it was deflected by Moise Kean, who played a pass forward to Di Maria and the Argentine then poked it through the goalkeeper's legs.

Di Maria then had the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot 10 minutes later, after Kean's shot hit Upamecano's hand. However, the former Real Madrid man's effort from 12 yards out was well saved by Gulacsi, who went the right way.

By not extending their lead to two goals, PSG gradually came under more and more pressure from Leipzig, which resulted in former PSG academy graduate Christopher Nkunku equalising just before the half-time break with a strike from just outside the area.

Then, in the 57th minute, Leipzig were able to take the lead for the first time in the match - and it is a lead they never relinquished. A cross caught the hand of Presnel Kimpembe and, after a VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot. Then, Emil Forsberg stepped up from the spot and sent his shot beyond the reach of Keylor Navas.

There was further bad news for PSG as the game went on, with Idrissa Gueye receiving his second yellow card in the 69th minute. PSG pushed for an equaliser, but frustration boiled over in the final minutes as Presnel Kimpembe also received his marching orders, also for a second yellow.

This result means that PSG have now lost two of their first three group-stage matches, which means they sit third in the group, level on points with bottom-placed Istanbul Basaksehir. Meanwhile, these three points for Leipzig take them up to six in total, level with Manchester United, who they sit behind on goal difference.
