International footballAlejandro Sabella still recovering from heart surgery in December

Ex-Argentina coach in hospital in Buenos Aires

The former Argentine football coach Alejandro Sabella, who was in charge when they were runners-up in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has been admitted to a private clinic in Buenos Aires, four months after he had surgery for blocked arteries to his heart.

He was taken to the Hospital Italiano on Friday night, although the reason for his admission is not known and he is waiting for medical tests, according to news agency DyN.

The 61-year-old was hospitalised in December for angioplasty, a surgical procedure to repair or unblock arteries, after suffering problems with his heart and high blood pressure.

The ex-coach of Estudiantes de La Plata, who won the Copa Libertadores in 2009 under him, has not worked since the 2014 World Cup where the team captained by Lionel Messi lost 1-0 in the final against Germany.

Despite offers within Argentina and abroad, the former Sheffield United and Leeds United player has turned his attention to giving talks about football rather than coaching.
