- World Cup. Twitter reacts to Grant Wahl's death, some claim he was murdered by Qatar
The 2022 World Cup will come to an end in just over a week, with the final being scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 18, at the Lusail Stadium.
Several curses have already been broken in the first weeks of the tournament, while teams could finally put an end to others which have been present in the World Cup for years.
Here, we'll take a look at some of the most incredible and lengthy curses involving teams or players at the tournament.
What are the World Cup curses that could be broken?
No world champion has managed to win two World Cups in a row since Brazil back in 1962. France, though, have now qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament after winning the previous edition.
Les Blues are considered as one of the favorites to win the title, which means that they could become the first team to win two consecutive World Cups since Pele's Brazil.
Another curse is that the Ballon d'Or winner normally fails to win the World Cup. Karim Benzema won't be able to help France to break that curse, as he has been sidelined through injury.
European domination in the World Cup
No South American team have managed to win the title since 2002, when Ronaldo Nazario's Brazil beat Germany in the final.
Italy, Spain, Germany and France won the next four World Cups and Argentina will be called to try to break the South American teams' curse this year, as favorites Brazil were eliminated by Croatia in the quarter-finals.
It has to be noted that Argentina have not won the trophy since 1986, when Diego Maradona led them to glory in Mexico.
With Lionel Messi and fresh from a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands, they will feel confident going forward into the semi-finals.
