Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0 in the last game of the group stage. But even that win was not enough to qualify them to the round of 16 of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The team managed by Diego Alonso got knocked out of the group stage for the first time after 20 years, just as it happened in the Korea Japan 2002 World Cup.

The elimination left the players totally devastated, heartbroken. You just had to watch Cavani punching the VAR monitor before heading to the dressing room. And of course, the player’s families were also really sad, who had rooted for them with all their hearts since day one. The best proof of that was the footage of Luis Suarez’s children.

Both the oldest of the kids, Delfina, and the middle boy, Benjamin, couldn’t hold their tears at the end of the encounter with their father. Those same tears shook the hearts of the whole world and the player himself, who thanked them for their unconditional support.

Seeing your kids like that has no consolation. But hearing them say they’re proud is worth more than anything. I LOVE YOU, and thank you for always being there’, the former Barcelona striker wrote through his social media, along with two pictures.

Passion for football in Uruguay -same as in almost any southamerican country- has no boundaries. And the little Suarez kids seem to have inherited their father’s love for the sport. We’ll see if they also have skills.
