Confirmed: Roy Miller called up for Copa Centroamericana by Costa Rica

Confirmation from Costa Rica makes it three Red Bulls on international duty this September: Miller, Oyongo and Cahill.

Congrats on the call-up, Roy. Bring us back something shiny.

The slight chance Paolo Wanchope would decide to let Roy Miller skip the upcoming Copa Centroamericana has officially been ruled out: Miller is in Costa Rica's final 25-man squad for the September tournament.

The competition kicks off at RFK on September 3rd, and the official FIFA international break doesn't start until 9/1, so it is to be hoped Miller will be available to play for RBNY's road game against D.C. United on August 31 - he needs to be in the area for his national team anyway.

What is now certain: he'll be out for KC's trip back to Harrison on 9/6.

The FIFA period mandated for international games is technically only from 9/1 to 9/9, but there is no point in releasing Miller for a competitive international tournament (with a Copa Centenario berth on the line) if you are not going to let him stay for the duration. And Costa Rica has named a strong squad (making concessions primarily for guys settling in to new clubs after Los Ticos' stellar World Cup run created a strong market for Costa Rican soccer players) - Wanchope is out to win this thing.

So we assume Miller is gone until the tournament is over, since we assume all the players on Wanchope's list have special dispensation to commit to their country's effort to win the Central American Championship. Expect Miller to miss DC's visit to the Arena on 9/10 and the trip to Philadelphia on 9/13.

Barring injury shenanigans, it would appear RBNY will now be without first and second choice left backs Miller and Ambroise Oyongo (called up by Cameroon) for the KC match on 9/6 (as well as Tim Cahill), with Miller staying away until the team's trip to Montreal on 9/17.
