Dimitris Salpingidis keeps rewriting history books. The skipper and third all-time scorer for PAOK scored against Platanias to reach the 200-goal milestone in all competitions and leagues. He scored his first on 30 September 1999 in his official debut for PAOK. In their encounter against Lokomotivi Tbilisi for the UEFA Cup, he came off the bench in minute 62 to substitute Zisis Vryzas. PAOK were coached then by Arie Haan.
He scored his first league goal when he was at the ranks of Kavala, on 17 February 2001 against Panetolikos at Agrinio. He played for Kavala for a spell of 18 months, on loan by PAOK.
In 2001-02, he won top scoring honours in 3rd Division, as he netted 20 goals in 28 matches for Kavala. He scored in half of the matches he appeared in.
His first goal in the Greek Cup was also for Kavala. On 16 September 2001, the Makedonia outfit were held 1-1 at home by Apollon Smyrni in the group stage of the competition.
His first top-flight goal was scored on 22 September 2002. Salpingidis made it 3-0 for PAOK in Crete against OFI, in a match that the “Double-Headed Eagle” emerged victorious 3-2 despite conceding twice in the final stages of the encounter.
On 28 September 2003, he scored his first brace for PAOK, as the Thessaloniki side defeated Paniliakos 4-1 at Pyrgos.
His first hat-trick was for Kavala, on 16 January 2002, in a 5-1 win at Panelefsiniakos for the 3rd Division. He also struck three times in the away 4-1 victory of Panathinaikos against Egaleo.
His most prolific season in the top flight was 2005-06. He scored 20 goals for PAOK, all competitions included: 17 goals in 37 league matches and 3 goals in 6 European encounters. In 2001-02, he scored 21 goals for Kavala in 3rd Division (20 for the league and 1 in the Greek Cup).
