Uruguay striker Diego Forlan believes his name is now enshrined in South American football folklore after he followed his grandfather and father as winners of the Copa America.
Forlan struck twice, after Luis Suarez's early opener, as Uruguay sealed a record 15th title with a 3-0 win over Paraguay in the Buenos Aries final.
For the 32-year-old Forlan the occasion was made even sweeter as he made a record 82nd Uruguay appearance and equalled Hector Scarone's La Celeste record of 31 goals in replicating the feats of his father Pablo and grandfather Juan Carlos.
"My grandfather won it, my father won it and now I have won it. It is a pride for the family," he told reporters after the match.
"Three generations of my family have won this tournament - Forlan will be the last name in history of football.
"It was a complicated game but the team played well. The early goal helped to simplify things."
Liverpool striker Suarez, who was named Player of the Tournament, opened the scoring on 12 minutes before Forlan's expert finish on the half-hour ended his 13-game wait for an international goal.
Suarez then laid off the third goal for his strike partner late on before praising the performance of his team.
"We played as a group. I think when groups are united like this, everyone together and going for the same thing, you can get things done," said Suarez, who finished the tournament with four goals, one behind top scorer Paolo Guerrero from Peru.
"The important thing was getting started well. With two goals in the first half, I think it was very difficult for them to come back."
Paraguay had reached the final despite not winning a single match in normal time and Justo Villar, who was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, admitted his team were second best.
"It was fair that Uruguay are the champions because they are a very solid team and their attackers are two lions. They are among the best strikers in the world," he said.
"We got to the final because we had guts and luck. Today in the second half we had a lot of the ball and we created some good chances but we just couldn't score."
