Sporting Kansas City midfielder Jorge Claros started and played the full 90 minutes for Honduras on Thursday in a 2-0 loss at Mexico. The international friendly was held at Estadio Víctor Manuel Reyna in Chiapas, Mexico and marked Claros' first minutes for Los Catrachos since appearing in all three group stage matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer.
Claros started in a four-man midfield that featured the Houston Dynamo duo of Boniek Garcia and Luis Garrido, as well as former MLS Rookie of the Year Andy Najar. Honduras -- No. 56 in the latest FIFA world rankings and coming off a fifth-place finish at the 2014 Copa Centroamericana -- conceded twice in the first half against their CONCACAF counterparts.
Real Madrid forward Javier Hernandez opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with the match-winner before Oswaldo Alanís added the game's second goal on a corner kick from Marco Fabian. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was credited with three saves in the shutout.
Claros, 28, will remain with Honduras for Tuesday's match-up against the U.S. Men's National Team at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida (7 p.m. CT on ESPN, WatchESPN and UniMas). Since being acquired in July, Claros has logged minutes in 10 matches for Sporting KC across all competition with seven MLS games played and appearances in all three CONCACAF Champions League group stage fixtures to date.
