I love memes. The comic relief of social media can be a nice tool to forget how depressing the U.S. men’s national team has been for a while. Aron Johannsson joined in on a new trend and put out a tweet everyone reading this post can surely relate to.

The new thing to do with the decade coming to a close is to post a picture of yourself in 2010 at the start of the decade and then one from present day. It’s a pretty simple concept to show the progression of your life for a whole decade. Some take it seriously and some take the chance to have some fun. The oft-injured striker did a little bit of both to make us laugh and cry all at the same time:

Poor ArJo has been through the ringer since committing to the USMNT in 2013. After showing some very bright moments early in his international career and even making the USA’s 2014 World Cup roster, Johannsson has been plagued by injury after injury. His career has been slowed severely due to his non-stop difficulties with injuries.

In a sense, his progression from bright-eyed youngster to cynical and honest about the state of his career is a direct representation of the road most USMNT fans have traveled this decade too. While seeing your favorite sports team go through a brutal period can’t really compare to actual injuries hurting your livelihood, it’s the symbolism of it all that feels so familiar.

We feel you, Aron.
