Geoff Cameron injured in Stoke's Capital One Cup match

Geoff Cameron was subbed out of Stoke City's Capital One match with an injury, the club said. The Potters have not yet updated his status, or provided information on what specific injury it is, but he was hurt and came off in the 34th minute.

The injury could have bigger consequences than usual for Cameron, who is hoping for a transfer away from Stoke and was expected to play for the United States in their friendly next week against the Czech Republic. Depending on the seriousness of the injury, both of those could be in doubt.

Cameron's injury didn't look especially serious. He was able to make it off of the pitch under his own power, but that is hardly proof that it is just a minor knock.

Clubs from all around Europe are interested in Cameron, who was playing in central midfield. He wants to leave Stoke because he normally has to play as a fullback and would prefer to play centrally, where clubs like Lazio, Sunderland and Hull would presumably play him if they bought him. But if he is facing an extended absence, it will be tough for a team to buy him.

If Cameron cannot play in the U.S. friendly, the American defense could be very, very young. Jurgen Klinsmann isn't expected to call in many MLS players for the match so it's conceivable that the center of defense is made up of John Brooks and Will Packwood or Tim Ream. Of course, Klinsmann could dip into his MLS pool or Cameron's injury may be very minor too.
