Geoff Cameron joins NBC, to call Premier League match Sunday

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Geoff Cameron is joining Tim Howard at NBC. The goalkeeper is already an analyst for the network, calling Premier League matches with Arlo White on some weekends, and now Cameron will do the same.

Cameron's first match will come on Sunday, when he joins White in the booth for Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace. That match will be at 8:30 a.m. ET on CNBS and it will come less than 24 hours after Cameron plays for Stoke City against Burnley.

In hiring Cameron, NBC has made it abundantly clear that they like having current Premier League players calling Premier League matches. When they hired Howard, it was their first attempt at it and while he had some clear hiccups -- which is to be expected of anyone calling matches for the first time -- he improved and NBC praised his insight. Now they have added a second current Premier League and United States player to their roster.

It is somewhat surprising that Cameron has chosen to do this because he has never had a particularly great relationship with the media. He has gone stretches without talking to reporters, so now him joining the other side is a bit of a shocker. Then again, he has no obligation to talk to the media and has never ducked what is required of him so that's fine, and if he wants to call matches, good for him.
