Seems like a done deal.

Rumors hit the internet on Tuesday that United States international John Brooks would be leaving Hertha Berlin as Wolfsburg are set to make him the most expensive American player ever by paying a reported transfer fee of €17 million.

That deal appears to be all but official after Hertha Berlin’s Sporting Director, Michael Preetz, spoke publicly about the rumors. He confirmed that Brooks has expressed his desire to leave the club and that it will happen, but did state the transfer isn’t complete yet.

"John Brooks has his change clearly expressed desire. He will leave the Club, but the transfer is still not perfect." — Rough translation from Bing translate

Brooks is currently in Colorado with the USMNT as they prepare for their busy summer of World Cup qualifiers. He appeared in 152 matches for Hertha Berlin in his career and will depart with seven goals to his name. We now await official confirmation of the deal, which might not come until transfer window opens in July or after the USMNT’s World Cup qualifiers.
