Ghana has released its 30-man preliminary roster and there are no surprises on it. All of the usual suspects are on it, with the strength and depth of the Black Stars' midfield very evident.
Kwadwo Asamoah, Andre Ayew, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and David Accam give the Black Stars an excellent center of the park, while Kevin-Prince Boateng is essentially a midfielder too, giving them an excellent attacking option. They also have Asamoah Gyan and Jordan Ayew up top, giving them a couple of excellent strikers. Their defense has a handful of nice players, like Jonathan Mensah and Samuel Inkoom, but it is a weak spot for their team.
Ghana has knocked the United States out of the last two World Cups and the Americans will open this year's tournament agains the Black Staes. With Germany and Portugal also in the group, both the U.S. and Ghana know that they almost definitely need at least a point from the opener if they want to make it out of the group.
