Andy Polo called up by Peru, will miss five matches for Timbers

The midfielder will be unavailable for tomorrow’s match against the Galaxy

Portland Timbers midfielder Andy Polo will miss five matches during the month of October after being called up by Peru to play in two 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches during the international break. He will not be available against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday and will return by Portland’s second matchup against the Galaxy on Oct. 28.

Polo has played in 16 matches for the Timbers in 2020, including five starts. He has one goal and one assist, the one goal being the MLS is Back Goal of the Tournament.

It’s the 26-year-old’s first call up since making the roster for two friendly matches in November of last year. Peru will face off against Paraguay on Oct. 8 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) and against Brazil on Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. (Pacific). Polo has earned 31 caps since his senior team debut in 2016.
