Ecuador and Peru played out an exciting draw with both teams dangerous in attack.

MATCH SUMMARY: Ecuador vs. Peru 2-2

Peru took the lead when Christian Cueva fired a shot straight past Ecuador goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez after a skillful pivot that beat the Ecuador defense.

It then extended its leads when Edison Flores scored in the 13th minute.

Peru controlled the majority of possession in the first half and Ecuador was caught out early and tried to work back into the game.

Ecuador was able to reduce the deficit in the 39th minute when Enner Valencia chested down a nice through ball to finish on his right foot, smashing the ball past Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

In the second half Ecuador equalized when Miller Bolanos fired in a cross from Jefferson Montero, who was dangerous on the left wing.

Gabriel Achilier from Ecuador was sent off the field after receiving his second yellow card in the dying minutes.

Peru is currently sitting at the top of Group B with 3 points. Ecuador will be confident after drawing against Brazil in its first match after Miller Bolanos was controversially denied a goal for Ecuador.

Bolanos is likely to again be a threat along with Swansea winger Jefferson Montero.

Ecuador coach Gustavo Quinteros asked for a similar effort as the one put in against Brazil.

“They have quality players and also play very well as a team. We always go out to play with the same spirit and with the same idea to win,'' he said

Paolo Guerrero is likely to be the danger man, having scored a wonderful header in Peru’s last game against Haiti, which they won 1-0. He is the all-time leading scorer for Peru.

The two teams have met 11 times in Copa America, Peru has an eight wins, two draws, one loss record against Ecuador in the tournament.

Peru is on top of Group B after beating Haiti and a win would secure its place in the next round.
