Atlético Madrid are poised to sign the Colombian forward Jackson Martínez after meeting his €35m (£24.8m) buyout clause, Porto have announced.
Clubs including Arsenal and Milan were reportedly keen to bring in the highly-rated Martínez, who played for Colombia at the Copa América last month, but Atlético have now won the race to sign the 28-year-old, who was under contract with Porto for another two seasons.
Porto, in a statement, said: “Atlético Madrid have informed Porto they will pay Jackson Martínez’s buyout clause – which is set at €35m.”
Martínez is expected to sign a four-year deal with Atlético, who are keen to strengthen their attacking options after selling the Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic to Juventus last week.
After joining the Portuguese club from the Mexican club Chiapas in 2012, Martínez scored 92 goals in 136 games for Porto and has been the top scorer in the Primeira Liga for the past three seasons.
He scored 21 goals in 30 league appearances last season as Porto finished as runners-up to Benfica.
