NEMANJA MATIC did not have a poppy on his shirt for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Saturday.

It is not yet clear if the decision was a personal choice or a mistake from United's kit team.

However, the ex-Chelsea midfielder was pictured with a poppy on his shirt when United visited the home of his former side last November.

Fans took to social media to vent their disapproval at the Serb after spotting it.

One fan, Duncan Rodgers, wrote: "Nemanja Matic with no poppy on his shirt... I would drop him and he would never play for United again."

Another, Ricky Biscuit, wrote: "No excuse for Matic not wearing a poppy. British involvement in Kosovo has nothing to do with remembering those who gave their life in two World Wars #DISGRACE."

However, some fans supported Matic.

On Reddit, one user wrote: "[It's] his choice and entitlement. Poppy police can f*** off."

Another said: "This poppy nonsense is getting ridiculous if someone doesn't want to wear one it shouldn't matter."

"It's his choice, but people will read what they want into it."

Elsewhere, Stoke's James McClean has asked fans to respect his continued stance of not wearing a poppy.

Some questioned on the social networking site whether Matic would get the same treatment as the Republic of Ireland international, who has been heavily criticised for his decision.
