Victor Valdes retires after rejecting offers from Deportivo and Sporting Lisbon to become a media mogul
Former Barcelona and Manchester United keeper's new programme has already been sold to 12 countries
VICTOR VALDES has retired from football after rejecting offers from big-time clubs including Deportivo and Sporting Lisbon - and turned his attention to becoming a media mogul.
Valdes, 35, who won everything there is to win during his time with Spain and Barcelona, has finally hung up his gloves.
But rather than go into coaching or punditry, the famed keeper will take the unusual step of going behind the camera.
Valdes has set up a television company called Crazy4fun with partners Rafa Coto and David Boja, according to Mundo Deportivo.
It is thought the company will be an "international production" based in Barcelona, Abu Dhabi and London.
But far from just calling the shots from the director's chair, Valdes will also feature on screen.
He has already established the groundwork for a show in which he will interview former players.
And the programme has reportedly been sold to 12 countries already.
Valdes will be remembered as one of the greatest keepers in Barcelona's history.
He won La Liga six times, the Champions League three times, the Super Cup six times, two Copa del Reys and bagged the Fifa Club World Cup twice.
And he was part of the all-conquering Spain team, lifting the 2010 World Cup two years before victory in the Euros.
But the end of his career was marked by disappointment and surprise transfers.
A six-month loan move to Standard Liege came to an end in June 2016 and a month later he joined Middlesbrough before having his contract terminated.
There he was first-choice keeper under Aitor Karanka but even he could not stop them being relegated into the Championship.
Valdes, who is father to sons Dylan and Kai and daughter Vera, has been out of football since leaving the Riverside in July.
