The 21-year-old played just over an hour of his country’s goalless draw with Colombia on Friday night.

And the Egyptian FA confirmed after the game that Sobhi had been allowed to briefly return to England to undergo a medical ahead of a possible switch to Huddersfield.

The ace made 30 appearances for Stoke last season and scored three goals but was unable to prevent his side from dropping into the Championship.

David Wagner had identified the need for new wide men in his squad ahead of the new campaign.
