Tottenham transfer news: Boca Juniors ‘offer Wilmar Barrios new contract’ to fend off interest from Spurs
The 24-year-old is set to feature at the World Cup for Colombia after starring for the Buenos Aires giants
TOTTENHAM'S move for Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios has reportedly hit a snag with Boca Juniors set to offer him a new contract.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a summer switch to join Spurs, but the Argentinian giants are desperate to keep him until at least January.
According to the Independent, the Buenos Aires outfit have offered Barrios an improved deal as they look to fend off interest from Tottenham.
Maurico Pochettino's men are on the lookout for a central midfielder, with Barcelona flop Andre Gomes a reported £30million target.
But with Barrios boasting a release clause of just £14.5m, the former Deportes Tolima ace is seen as an attractive alternative.
Boca want to keep hold of their star man ahead of their upcoming Copa Libertadores campaign.
South America's version of the Champions League resumes in August, with Boca to face Paraguayan side Libertad in the Round of 16.
Should Barrios make the move to North London, he would be joined at the club by compatriot Davinson Sanchez.
The duo will be looking to star for Colombia at the World Cup in Russia, with Japan their first opponents in their Group H opener on Tuesday.
It looks set too be a busy summer for Spurs, with a number of key players being linked with moves away.
