Schalke send Mendyl down to the reserves – because he missed his DENTIST appointment

Head coach Huub Stevens was left fuming at the left-back's 'undisciplined attitude'

SCHALKE defender Hamza Mendyl was dropped tooth the reserves - because he skipped visits to the DENTIST.

Head coach Huub Stevens was left fuming with the highly-rated left-back over his "undisciplined attitude."

According to German newspaper Bild, the root reason for the decay in their relationship was that Mendyl missed several appointments.

Reserve team player Jonas Carls has been called up to the senior team and is now filling in for Mendyl.

Carls, 22, could make the bench and is now braced to make his senior debut against Frankfurt.

Stevens added that he wouldn't be giving Mendyl too much of a pasting and would soon brush past the incident.

He added: "Everyone gets a second chance.

"He can open the door again."

Mendyl, 21, is one of the crown players of Schalke's squad - and almost found himself playing in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal and Newcastle were close to signing the Moroccan, but the Gunners were unable to extract him from Lille as he couldn't get a work permit.

He said at the time: "It's true: I was in talks with Arsenal and Newcastle.

"But as a Moroccan citizen it's not that easy to obtain a work permit.

"I would have trusted myself to play Premier League."
