But after a meeting with Argentinian FA president Claudio Tapia and vice-president Daniel Angelici yesterday, he has been given more time.

An AFA statement confirmed: "In the next executive committee meeting, which is planned for the end of July, the members will make a joint evaluation about Sampaoli's work and future."

The COTIF L'Alcudia begins on July 28 and runs until August 7, with Sampaoli likely to survive for the duration.

But his position is far from secure amid reports he lost the Argentinian dressing room and allowed senior players to pick the team.
