1 min

It was Thanksgiving in the United States, but it was just another day of soccer at the World Cup. The last eight teams to make their debuts in Qatar took the field Thursday in Group G and Group H games. Switzerland beat Cameroon, 1-0, in the first game of the day, and then Uruguay and South Korea played to a 0-0 draw. Portugal, led by superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, topped Ghana in a wild, 3-2, match, and top-ranked Brazil closed the day with a 2-0 win over Serbia.

Five-time champion Brazil, the best team in the world according to the FIFA rankings and without a World Cup title in 20 years, opened its pursuit of a sixth overall with a win over Serbia. Richarlison had two goals in the victory, including one on a beautiful scissor-kick volley.
Breel Embolo scored the only goal in Thursday’s opener, giving Switzerland a 1-0 win over Cameroon in Group G. Embolo was born in Cameroon. International superstars Luis Suárez and Son Heung-min went head-to-head in the second game, and Uruguay and South Korea played to a scoreless draw in Group H. And five goals after halftime highlighted a wild win for Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal over Ghana.
The World Cup continues Friday with four more group stage games, including the United States against England. Find the full schedule and group standings here.
