Sail talk with Robert Scheidt

Robert Scheidt, a sailing legend with no less than Olympic medals won in the Laser and Star Classes, is at The Nations Trophy as tactician aboard the ClubSwan 50 Earlybird.

Robert, do you enjoy racing in Porto Cervo?

Robert: This place is amazing. It is one of the most beautiful regatta courses in Europe and possibly the world. I've been here twice already and wish I could have come more often, but I'm really happy to be there with the Earlybird Team. Competition in the ClubSwan 50s is very strong, with thirteen boats. We started our campaign with the Earlybird Team and I think we are getting better every day.

There are many superstar tacticians like you here so the level of competition is very high, almost like in the 52 Super Series, where you have also sailed. How are you feeling about this fleet?

Robert: Yes, the level is incredibly high and the teams are getting stronger. This makes racing more challenging for tacticians.  The competition is fierce and the race course is not too long which means that situations develop quickly and the boats are very close together.  But all of this makes racing exciting and we need to focus on our crew and communication to ensure a fast boat.  We are working to improve our performance after a not particularly successful event in Villasimius. Here in Porto Cervo we plan to do better.
