Green cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) fruit pods. The pods contain black seeds. Cardamom belongs to the ginger family of plants (Zingiberaceae). The seeds have a distinctive lemon-like aroma similar to cumin. It is used as a spice to flavour food, especially rice dishes. Both the seeds and the whole pods are used.
